Firefly Music Festival 2014 in Delaware #ListenwithLumia

By Tuesday, June 17, 2014 0 Permalink 0

This past week I was in Chicago to celebrate my sister-in-law's graduation from DePaul University (Congrats again Maddy!), when I got a message from Aimee asking what I was doing the weekend of June 20th (besides Westword Music Showcase, of course). I quickly looked at my calendar and realized that was the only event on my calendar for the weekend. I told her I was free otherwise, and she quickly replied back that Nokia had contacted her about going to Delaware for the Firefly Music Festival (which I had honestly never heard of before) and she also gave them my name to go as her guest. ...

Boulder Startup Week – Plan Your Summer Music Adventure With Me!

By Sunday, May 11, 2014 0 Permalink 0

We can all agree on this - Colorado is a great place for music lovers, especially during the summer. Between Red Rocks, the Greeley Stampede, Fiddlers Green and the events that take place in every mountain town and local city each weekend, every single music lover can find something to fulfill their musical desires each weekend this summer. Tomorrow I'm talking on a panel at Boulder Startup Week about planning your summer Colorado adventure and my expertise will be music and more specifically, music festivals happening in Colorado this summer. So, what makes me qualified to talk on such a subject when I'm not a musician, or ...

FoCoMX 6 – April 25th and 26th, 2014

By Thursday, April 24, 2014 0 Permalink 0

Friday, April 25th marks the beginning of FoCoMX 6. I can't believe it has been 6 years already! I've been attending (and writing) about this festival since the beginning. I love the music scene in Colorado (besides Boulder of course) and FoCoMX is one of my favorite festivals as it is held in my hometown of Fort Collins. It helps that my brother's bands have always played, giving me further incentive to attend. Here's my schedule, although I'm sure this will change based on venue capacity and recommendations: (more…)

New Music Tuesday – Hometown for the Holidays 2013 #HTFTH Winner – Claymore Disco!

By Tuesday, December 17, 2013 0 Permalink 0

Well, Hometown for the Holidays #HTFTH, has come to a close. I'm sure you are all excited that my constant #HTFTH tweets have ended, but wow! What a contest! In case you missed it, the top 3 bands as voted by Music Nerds all over the US were: The Photo Atlas Pandas & People Claymore Disco Those three put on a great show at Casselman's on Saturday night. If you've never attended a #HTFTH event, I highly recommend it. This event is pretty much the 'company' holiday party for local musicians. I can't even begin to count the number of bands that were in attendance. On to the music. Today ...

Rdio’s New Radio Feature

By Saturday, August 10, 2013 0 Permalink 0

Rdio has been my streaming music site of choice for quite some time now, and earlier this week they released an awesome new feature! While I enjoy being able to select bands, songs or albums to listen to, but sometimes when I am working I just want music to play and not repeat the same album over and over. Generally when I feel this way I just switch to Pandora.com and create a new station. Every once and a while I'll even use the iHeartRadio app and listen to 93.3 KTCL on my phone. However I am never quite satisfied with the music that my Pandora station ...

New Music Tuesday – Jack’s Mannequin: Live From The El Rey Theatre

By Tuesday, June 25, 2013 0 Permalink 0

I don't generally like live albums as they usually sound pretty shitty and don't really replicate the experience you get by being at the theatre with 200, 300, 1000 of your closest friends (for the night at least). But Andrew McMahon sounds amazing on this live album recorded at the El Rey Theatre: I feel like I am there, watching him dance on his piano, singing along with the crowd. I'm literally dancing at my desk at 8:30 this morning to this album.

Royal Teeth and American Authors at Larimer Lounge

I didn't know who Royal Teeth were until Aimee invited me to go see them with her. I absolutely loved their song Wild, so of course I said yes. They were even more impressive in concert! They had this great energy on stage and I loved all of the percussion instruments they used (I'm a drum girl after all). Here's some video Aimee shot last time they played at Larimer Lounge: (more…)

Warped Tour 2013 – Denver, CO

By Wednesday, June 19, 2013 0 Permalink 0

I've been attending Warped tours for the last decade (oh god, that makes me sound old!) and I'm looking forward to returning yet again this year! Who will we see there? I wasn't planning on attending this year, but then Kia approached us and asked if we would share this widget they created specifically for Warped Tour. Did you know that Kia is the official vehicle of Vans Warped Tour? Now you do! This year the Kia tent at Vans Warped Tour will feature fun challenges, airbrush tattoos and hair coloring, and signings and acoustic sets from bands featured on the tour! Their widget below has the ...
