Music Monday – ‘Beauty Queen’ by Bop Skizzum

By Monday, April 18, 2011 0 Permalink 0

Time for some more local music! My latest song on repeat comes from veterans Bop Skizzum. They have been around for over 10 years, but are still just as rocking as ever. They describe themselves as 'funk, soul and some rock and roll.' I went to college with Andy ROK Guerrero at CU Denver and am happy that Bop Skizzum is still kicking it. They are playing a show in Boulder, at the Fox Theater tomorrow night, April 19th, which is exciting, since we all know my thoughts on the local Boulder music scene. Enjoy Beauty Queen below, and consider joining me for their show tomorrow! Beauty ...

Upcoming Concerts That I Am Attending And So Should You

By Friday, April 15, 2011 0 Permalink 0

Now that FoCoMX is over, I am already planning out the rest of my month with as many concerts as I can. There are 2 festivals that are coming up in April that have great lineups and are both for good causes. The first is Mountain of Arms, which will be a big festival that takes place at City Hall in Denver and features 25+ bands, playing 3 stages on April 23rd. Best part? Tickets are only $12 AND all proceeds benefit Japan. (more…)

Gilt Sale: Flip Camera!

By Wednesday, April 13, 2011 0 Permalink 0

So yesterday Cisco announced that it was killing the Flip camera. Today Gilt Groupe is having a huge sale on Flip cameras! I own a Flip, and I have not been impressed with it whatsoever. It is kind of big, bulky and even though I have the HD version, the video and audio quality are not as good as my iPhone. The audio is especially bad at concerts, which seems to be where I take most of my video these days. If you were upset when you learned that Flip was dying, here is one more chance to go grab one before they become obsolete!

Local Band of the Week: Churchill

By Tuesday, April 12, 2011 0 Permalink 0

It is no secret that I love local music, and luckily we live in a great area that is full of amazing bands. This week the local band on repeat for me is Churchill. I have seen them a few times in Denver and they will be playing at the Brick House (connected to the Lazy Dog) in Boulder on Thursday night, April, 14th. Opening for them is another great act, Sam Lee. Tickets are only $5, so there really is no reason for you not to join me. Here is an acoustic song/video of Churchill (and how adorable is Bethany playing the accordion? She has ...

All Liver No Onions – FoCoMX

By Sunday, April 10, 2011 0 Permalink 0

While waiting for the green room to open at FoCoMX on Saturday, I met my friend Rande at Hodi's Half Note. Playing was All Liver No Onions, who were fantastic! The lead singer, Mia, was adorable, and wrote this song all by herself! The story of how they got their name is also pretty cute: "One day in the depths of the sea, a dolphin named Salli tried to eat an onion, she didn't enjoy it much, and cried a bit. This ordeal made her so sad she decided to move to the land. She ended up in Colorado and met a boy named Oliver, They fell ...

My (tentative) plan for FoCoMX

By Thursday, April 7, 2011 0 Permalink 0

With over 250 bands, djs and artists and only 2 days, planning out my schedule for the 3rd annual FoCoMX was a bit difficult! This year FoCoMX teamed up with Sched.org to create the website and schedule. They make it really easy to plan your weekend! All you have to do is create a login and select the bands you want to see. You can even link Sched.org to your Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare accounts to track where your friends are going to be. You can see my schedule here: http://focomx2011.sched.org/SativaBella or below is a screen shot of my tentative plan, but please suggest any bands you think I ...

The Story Behind ‘SativaBella’

By Wednesday, April 6, 2011 5 Permalink 0

Recently I have been asked by more and more people how I came up with the Twitter name 'SativaBella' so I figured I would share the story with everyone. It is no secret that I LOVE puppies (any dog I meet is a puppy, so this includes dogs of all ages). In October, 2007 I fell in love with this puppy, who was in the window of a pet store (yes I know, I should have adopted/gone to humane society etc, but I didn't - you can give me grief about that later): I just could not resist this little wiry furball. She was a Shiba Inu mixed with ...
