Boulder Startup Week 2011
This Wednesday kicks off Boulder Startup Week 2011. I was out of town for Startup Week 2010 but was able to attend one event, beer and bloggers, which ended up changing my life in Boulder. While that may seem a bit over-dramatic, it is the truth. If I had not attended that event at Mountain Sun, then I never would have been introduced to Joni! It seems that most people who came to Startup Week 2010 have similar stories to share about this event and how it changed their lives. I will have to work during the day, but hope to make it out to some of ...
Latest non-tech, non-music obsession
About a week ago my roommate, Patty, came home from Target with a new water bottle. She told me that I should go to Target and get one and then blog about it, because it is that great. I didn't believe her, but when I found myself at Target last night, I couldn't help but track down this new water bottle and buy one for myself. Yes, it has been less than 24 hours with my new water bottle, but I already love it! The thing that makes this Groove CamelBak water bottle so awesome is that it has a built in filtration system. It ...
My Purse Is Full
Of Square credit card readers! Yes, my purse is generally full of crap: camera, iPhone, Blackberry, iPad, Mophie, countless cords, ear plugs, wallet, makeup, band-aids, Advil, contacts...the list goes on and on and on, but how many times has it come in handy for you? There have been countless nights where I have lent out my cell phone charges, Mophie chargers to those in need, given Advil to those in pain and caught many moments on camera (that most would probably like to forget) but it is always worth it. Now my purse is full of something else that will likely help others more than it helps ...
Music Monday – ‘Beauty Queen’ by Bop Skizzum
Time for some more local music! My latest song on repeat comes from veterans Bop Skizzum. They have been around for over 10 years, but are still just as rocking as ever. They describe themselves as 'funk, soul and some rock and roll.' I went to college with Andy ROK Guerrero at CU Denver and am happy that Bop Skizzum is still kicking it. They are playing a show in Boulder, at the Fox Theater tomorrow night, April 19th, which is exciting, since we all know my thoughts on the local Boulder music scene. Enjoy Beauty Queen below, and consider joining me for their show tomorrow! Beauty ...
Local Band of the Week: Churchill
It is no secret that I love local music, and luckily we live in a great area that is full of amazing bands. This week the local band on repeat for me is Churchill. I have seen them a few times in Denver and they will be playing at the Brick House (connected to the Lazy Dog) in Boulder on Thursday night, April, 14th. Opening for them is another great act, Sam Lee. Tickets are only $5, so there really is no reason for you not to join me. Here is an acoustic song/video of Churchill (and how adorable is Bethany playing the accordion? She has ...
The Story Behind ‘SativaBella’
Recently I have been asked by more and more people how I came up with the Twitter name 'SativaBella' so I figured I would share the story with everyone. It is no secret that I LOVE puppies (any dog I meet is a puppy, so this includes dogs of all ages). In October, 2007 I fell in love with this puppy, who was in the window of a pet store (yes I know, I should have adopted/gone to humane society etc, but I didn't - you can give me grief about that later): I just could not resist this little wiry furball. She was a Shiba Inu mixed with ...
Yoda FFB
So my coworker emailed a colleague that if he was able to get something done for her, he would be her BFF. He responded that he couldn't do it, but could he still be her FFB? It is clearly a Friday afternoon because we are in tears over this! Best comment? "That is like Yoda speak for BFF" "My FFB you will be?"
Flavor Tripping and the Miracle Fruit
I honestly had no idea what to expect when my friend Anna invited me to a party at her house where the theme was to take a pill that was created from some miracle fruit. The miracle fruit somehow reacted with your taste buds and altered how you tasted salty and sour foods. Anna had a bought a smorgasbord of foods ranging from IPA’s, whiskey, tomatoes, lemons, war heads, cheeses, olives and more. When you take the pill you are supposed to let it dissolve on your tongue and come into contact with as many taste buds as possible, which made for some funny faces and quotes: ...
What Music Scene?
Let's face it, the music scene here in Boulder is, well, lacking. Okay even that is being a too nice. The music scene here sucks. There is no community for bands and artists, and even if there was a small, supportive one, there are no venues to accommodate local bands. When I think of venues in Boulder, I think of the Fox Theatre, Boulder Theater, Club 156 and maybe the Brick House at Lazy Dog. Both the Fox and Boulder theaters are too big for most local artists and likely too expensive to them as well. I have never been to Club 156, and the few times ...
