Earlier tonight I decided that I wanted my Tumblr to be hosted on my own domain (which is already owned by me and hosts this blog, but I did not set any of it up, I had help from Matt).
Matt is on a road trip, so he was not able to walk me through how to create a sub domain or switch sativabella.tumblr.com over to the new domain, and I would normally rely on his knowledge to help me with this stuff. I am still a n00b to many things on the net.
There is a help section on Tumblr that was useful, but they advise against attempting this switch unless you are an advanced user, and I am far from it. I decided to go for it anyways, because what was the worst that could happen? My website goes down? That was not terribly concerning to me since I only recieve about 10 visits a day.
After about 30-45 minutes, and with the help of Tumblr and Google, I added a brand new custom dns to my site and was even able to figure out what “type” and “value” referred to on Dreamhost.
While the site isn’t quite live yet (I only changed it about 30 minutes ago, and they say it can take up to 72 hours UPDATE: It is live! log.monikarunstrom.com and it works! I was nervous that I messed it up, but it works!) I am surprised I was able to do this, all by myself!!
I know that this is not something terribly difficult to do, but I am quite proud that I was able to do it all by myself.
