Last Tuesday, I *gasp* went to a concert! But this wasn't my normal, local band concert, it was Duran Duran! Now, while the majority of my concerts are small, local shows, I have been to my fair share of shows at stadiums. In the past few years I have seen Tom Petty, U2, The Cars, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, John 'Cougar' Mellencamp and more that I can't seem to remember right now (I really need to start a list). Anyways, I was a little hesitant to go to this show because I wasn't sure how good Duran Duran would be live, but I have to say, I was impressed! ...
WTAF?
I really do not know what just happened to my ears. Gotta hand it to Jack White, he sure does know how to pick his collaborations. Insane Clown Posse - Leck Mich Im Arsch by Third Man Records Now to go listen to something more upbeat (say Koo Koo Kanga Roo maybe?) And to get the ICP visuals out of your head, here is video from when Koo Koo Kanga Roo came through Denver:
Bohemian Nights at New West Fest 2011
Tomorrow is the start of the 2011 Bohemian Nights music festival at New West Fest in Fort Collins. Since I grew up in Fort Collins, I have been dragged to my fair share of New West Fests, but I must say, they are getting increasingly better with each year. The main focus of New West Fest used to be arts and crafts, and while many vendors still have booths and sell their art, the focus has changed and is now more music related. A few years ago the Bohemian Foundation came in and funded the music for the whole weekend and has been growing the festival ...
My latest musical obsession: Scattered Trees
Currently Obsessed with Scattered Trees thanks to Petals of Spain. They posted this video earlier, and I fell in love with both the video and the song. Then I started listening to the whole album and have had this song on repeat for the better part of an hour. Something about the drums and the tambourine in this song just have me mesmerized (yes, it is quite possible that my medication has something to do with this obsession, I still stand by my obsession though).
Eldren Music
Another local band I have been enjoying recently is Eldren. They haven't been around for too long, but they are already making their presence known in the local music scene. Head over to their website, Eldrenmusic.com, to listen to their album for free (player at the bottom of the page). If you sign up for their email newsletter you will also get a free download of their song Greetings (which is currently stuck in my head). They are also quite impressive in concert, so do not miss out on their upcoming shows this month. The first is on June 11th at the Larimer Lounge with The Foot ...
Boulder – Come Out and Play
This Thursday! Come hang out with me at (where else) a concert! Fort Collins band Fierce Bad Rabbit will be making the trek to Boulder to play at the Brickhouse (next to Lazy Dog). Here is video of Fierce Bad Rabbit playing the Westword showcase at SXSW:
Guilty Pleasure
This Friday I had a random run in with my favorite Denver family, Aimee, Bryan and Declan and they introduced me to the wonderful world of Eurovision. I can now say that I am team Jedward: Ok, I will admit, they are the only 'band' I have seen from Eurovision, but I stand by my choice. UPDATE: Ok I clearly need to watch this show next time it is on, or maybe even host a party to watch the 2011 series because Aimee also just shared this gem with me, Moldova: Who wants to start a Eurovision party in Boulder with me?
Friday afternoon pick me up – AM Taxi – Fed Up
After spending all day listening to System of a Down, trying to decide if I want to see them in concert next week, I decided I needed to switch it up a bit. Luckily I saw AM Taxi tweet that their video for Fed Up was back on YouTube after EMI pulled it a few months ago. This is just what I needed to listen to on a gorgeous Friday afternoon, so I thought I'd share! Enjoy!
Mother Fuckin Be There
Join me for more local music this Friday at Road 34 (bonus: it is Sean Bennett of The Heyday's birthday on Saturday): If that video wasn't enticing enough for you to make the trek to Fort Collins on Friday to see The Heyday, Eldren and BlackHounds, then maybe this video of Eldren from their show last week at Marquis with My Body Sings Electric will be: Plus the BlackHounds look like a fun band to party with:
Video from Mountain of Arms
For anyone that did not heed my advice and missed out on Mountain of Arms last weekend, you are in luck, I took a ton of videos! Here are some of my favorites: Bop Skizzum covering Florence and the Machine's Dog Days Are Over Eldren: Acoustic Air Dubai: Petals of Spain singing Lady Luck: Here is a playlist of all the Mountain of Arms videos (and link to them all on my YouTube Mountain of Arms page): Hopefully you have learned from your mistakes if you were not there and will pay attention to my list of upcoming local concerts next time! :)
