Hometown for the Holidays 2011

By Sunday, December 4, 2011 1 Permalink 0

Christmas has arrived early for me this year! And no, I am not talking about my new car (although that is a great Christmas gift. Thanks Mom and Dad!). Next week is the week that I will be listening to KTCL 93.3 as many hours of the day as possible. Why? Because it is Hometown for the Holidays!! You've never heard of Hometown for the Holidays (HTFTH)? Well, if you live in Denver and care about local music as much as me (or even just a little bit), then you have to join me and support 93.3 this week. Each year they hold this contest for local ...

Company of Thieves Cover Tom Petty

By Monday, November 14, 2011 0 Permalink 0

Seriously, to all of you that were not at this show last week at the Marquis Theatre (and this is directed to just about everyone I know because there were NOT enough people there), you missed a fantastic show! Opening for Company of Thieves was Popcult (seriously awesome local band), but of course COT stole the show. Genevieve Schatz is an amazing performer who captivates the audience the moment she got on stage in her sparkling dress. Not only does she know how to dance, but her voice is incredible. Don't believe me? Watch the video below, where she covers Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down:" And Oscar ...

Fork Me

By Tuesday, August 23, 2011 2 Permalink 0

It is no secret that I will sign up for any new service and download most new apps, but most of them are gone from my iPhone and my memory within a few days (some within hours). Even more rare is the app that I find myself using almost immediately on a daily basis. Forkly is one of those apps. I was lucky enough to be a beta tester for them, but when I updated my iOS to beta 5 it borked my ability to use Forkly. That is when I knew that they were on to something. I was so annoyed that I couldn't fork my food ...

My latest musical obsession: Scattered Trees

By Tuesday, August 2, 2011 0 Permalink 0

Currently Obsessed with Scattered Trees thanks to Petals of Spain. They posted this video earlier, and I fell in love with both the video and the song. Then I started listening to the whole album and have had this song on repeat for the better part of an hour. Something about the drums and the tambourine in this song just have me mesmerized (yes, it is quite possible that my medication has something to do with this obsession, I still stand by my obsession though).

Latest Music Obsession: Paper Wolves

By Wednesday, July 27, 2011 0 Permalink 0

This latest band comes to you all the way from Australia! (Look at me branching out beyond my Denver roots :p)   Ok, so while this band is from Australia, I have to fess up, I was introduced to them through a local band. Three years ago, Paper Wolves member, Mike Horbacz was in the band The Mile After and they toured with my brother's band, Tickle Me Pink. For my birthday that year, my parents gave me a trip out to California to see TMP play in Pomona and at the House Of Blues in LA. I fell in LOVE with The Mile After in Cali and ...

Latest non-tech, non-music obsession

By Friday, May 13, 2011 0 Permalink 0

About a week ago my roommate, Patty, came home from Target with a new water bottle. She told me that I should go to Target and get one and then blog about it, because it is that great. I didn't believe her, but when I found myself at Target last night, I couldn't help but track down this new water bottle and buy one for myself. Yes, it has been less than 24 hours with my new water bottle, but I already love it! The thing that makes this Groove CamelBak water bottle so awesome is that it has a built in filtration system. It ...

Missing The Good Old Days

My dad found this clip of Tickle Me Pink performing The Time Is Wrong in Wyoming on SoundCloud earlier this week and I have been listening to it on repeat. Nbehnke (the person who mixed the live version) did a really good job at capturing what the live concert feels like. Listening to this song really made me miss going to so many TMP shows. Tickle Me Pink - The Time Is Wrong by nbehnke Maybe this is why I am in search for new local bands to follow, I need to get my fix of local music!

Music Monday – ‘Beauty Queen’ by Bop Skizzum

By Monday, April 18, 2011 0 Permalink 0

Time for some more local music! My latest song on repeat comes from veterans Bop Skizzum. They have been around for over 10 years, but are still just as rocking as ever. They describe themselves as 'funk, soul and some rock and roll.' I went to college with Andy ROK Guerrero at CU Denver and am happy that Bop Skizzum is still kicking it. They are playing a show in Boulder, at the Fox Theater tomorrow night, April 19th, which is exciting, since we all know my thoughts on the local Boulder music scene. Enjoy Beauty Queen below, and consider joining me for their show tomorrow! Beauty ...

Local Band of the Week: Churchill

By Tuesday, April 12, 2011 0 Permalink 0

It is no secret that I love local music, and luckily we live in a great area that is full of amazing bands. This week the local band on repeat for me is Churchill. I have seen them a few times in Denver and they will be playing at the Brick House (connected to the Lazy Dog) in Boulder on Thursday night, April, 14th. Opening for them is another great act, Sam Lee. Tickets are only $5, so there really is no reason for you not to join me. Here is an acoustic song/video of Churchill (and how adorable is Bethany playing the accordion? She has ...
