EP: In The Whale

By Tuesday, December 6, 2011 0 Permalink 0

It's a very good assumption that if you come to Indie Bitches, you're wanting to hear about Denver local bands, releases, shows, and events in general. By making that assumption, I'm guessing that most of you have heard of bands such as The Doors, The Black Keys, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and The White Stripes, right? Now another big question here is: what do these bands all have in common? Obviously they're all incredibly talented and well-known musicians, but did you happen to notice that they're successful without bass players? In The Whale is one of our local bands who was willing to take this risk. Their ...

Album: Air Dubai’s New EP; Day Escape

By Tuesday, October 18, 2011 0 Permalink 0

I've been sitting on the edge of my seat since last October, waiting for more Air Dubai. Although the Remixtape was released in March this year, hearing new music in any sense is always something that's refreshing. Day Escape (released on 10/25/11) is like a cold glass of water on a hot summer day, something that I know is helping this band grow and become even more amazing than they already are. Between the trumpet, guitar, bass, drums, and two voices that make angels in the sky stop and listen, this EP is the best thing to come from this incredibly talented ensemble yet. Obviously there ...

Band: Vices I Admire

It's not very often that I can say there are immoral and wicked activities that I regard with warm approval, however now that Vices I Admire have been brought to my attention, I might have to say otherwise. Being a very well-known fact that I enjoy heavier/bolder music and even am known to be more of a "grungy bitch" than an "indie bitch", when it was recommended that(because of my love for bands such as The Photo Atlas and Take To The Oars) I give Vices I Admire a listen, I was in. Denver has easily one of the best music scenes; not merely because of the amount of talent ...

The Foot. Covers Adele’s Rolling In The Deep

By Wednesday, August 31, 2011 0 Permalink 0

Yes, this song is probably the most covered song of the summer and honestly, I am getting a little sick of it. Most bands/artists that cover this song haven't given it their own sound. They cover it just to cover it because of its popularity. However, Denver band The Foot. adds their own unique sound and style to Adele's song Rolling In The Deep. What do you think?

Album: American Volume; Take To The Oars

By Friday, August 26, 2011 0 Permalink 0

It's pretty common knowledge that between the two of us, Monika and I listen to more local music than anything else. Both of us are so involved in our lives on the web that we rarely have time to even buy CD's anymore, so just about every CD in our cars are those of the locals who tell us to listen to them. I can honestly say that I hadn't ever been to a Take To The Oars(formerly Vonnegut) show before or even heard them until the Underground Music Showcase, where I met lead singer, Ryan Gombeski, outside of Moe's BBQ after a My Body Sings Electric show, and The ...

Band: Eldren

Well it's safe to say that they're definitely invested in your emotions, because Eldren has created their own type of sound that definitely gives you an "indescribable feeling" - and in the best possible way. The band recently released their first ever EP and it's wholeheartedly said that we're completely delighted. Eldren's sound is both original and rhythmic, the exact type of music that no matter what type of song they're playing, you can't help but dance. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="958" caption="Eldren playing at Larimer Lounge 8/21/11"]  With their very own quirkiness, mix of several different instruments, and voices that make angels want to cry from happiness, Eldren has really ...

Band: In The Whale

Despite being the 11th annual UMS, the 2011 Underground Music Showcase was my first. It was not quite as crazy and packed as South by Southwest, but I was definitely impressed with the number of music fans and bands that attended. Many of the bands I saw at UMS were ones that I had heard of and/or seen before, but one band that was neither of those things was In The Whale. This two-piece band put on an incredible show to some of the top musicians in Denver. In the crowd were members of My Body Sings Electric, The Photo Atlas, Epilogues and more. In The ...
